He was born in the year 807 Hijriah. He was a respected member of Sadaat  family who traced his ancestory to Hadhrat Al-Imam ush Shareef

Syedina Imam Hassan Radhiallahu Anhu ibn Al-Imam-ul-Mashariqe-Wal-Magharib Syed Ali ibn Abi taalib Karramallahu Ta’ala Wajhahu, Radhiallahu Anhu wa-Radha-Unnaa.

The Sahibe Dalailul Khairaat Shareef was a Sheikh in Shazliah Tariqat. He returned to Rahmat Allah (Wisaal Shareef ) in the year 870 Hijriah.

It is said, that Hadhrat Syedina Imam Al-Jazuli  had twelve thousand Mureeds (disciples). A detailed account of Imam Al-Jazuli’s biography is published in many books and also available on the net .

He belonged to the Berber tribe of Jazula which was settled in the Sus area of Morocco between the Atlantic Ocean and the Atlas Mountains. He studied locally and then went to the Madrasah AS-Saffareen in Fez where his room is still pointed out to visitors. He  spent  forty years in Mekkah, Medina and Jerusalem. After this, he returned to Fez where he completed Daala'il ul-Khayraat.

He was initiated into the Shazili Tariqat by Sharif Abu Adullah Muhammad Ibn Amghar. He spent forteen years in Kbalwat (seclusion) and then went to Safi where he gathered around him many followers. The governor of Safi felt obliged to expel him and as a result,  Allah's wrath came down on the town and it subsequently fell into the hands of the Portugese for forty years .

According to a tradition, it was the governor of Safi who poisoned Hadhrat Imam Jazuli Rahmatullahi 'Alaihiand caused his death, whilst engaged in prayer, in 869 AH (or 870 or 873) .

Seventy seven years after his death his body was exhumed for removed to Marraqesh. His body was found to be uncorrupted (adapted from The Encyclopaedia of Islam, 1957 Leiden).

It is said that the writer of Dalaa'il ul-Khayrat once went on a journey, when in great need of water for making ablutions. He came upon a well but could not reach the water without a bucket and rope ,which he did not have. He became very worried. A young girl saw this and came to his assistance. She spat into the well where  upon the water rose to the top of its own accord.

Seeing this miracle, he asked the girl " And how is that possible?" The girl replied "I was able to do this through my recitation of salawat upon the Prophet, Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam." Having thus seen the benefit of salawat upon the Prophet  Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam.,  he decided to write Dalaa'il ul-Khayrat.

In the urdu translation of a Sharah Dalaailul Khairaat Shareef the background of Imam Al-Jazuli Rahmatullahi 'Alaihi is described as Follows.
